Milly's Christmas List

The Christmas Countdown has begun in earnest and we couldn’t be more excited! We’re full of festive spirit and are passionate about helping you make this your best Christmas ever. Our beautiful Christmas ranges are packed with gift inspiration to help you find the perfect present for everyone.

Whether your child is the teacher’s pet or spends more of their time in the ‘thinking corner’ than at their desk, a gift to the teacher is a must. During term time they spend as much time with your children as you do, so show your appreciation and get the teachers something they’ll love this Christmas! Something for their Christmas Tree would be much appreciated. Our baubles are filled with chocolate coins to make them extra wonderful!

As they put their feet up for a well deserved break after the busy Autumn Term we think our Duo Tin of Tea and Biscuits would go down very well. Available in our sweet and humorous Gingerbread Wonderland or London Icons design, these tins are filled with Sri Lankan afternoon tea and scrumptious biscuits. Not a tea drinker? We’re sure their smile will be restored with a Pyramid Hot Chocolate Set.

Want to show your appreciation to your colleagues or employees? We’ve plenty of thoughtful gifts to fit a range of budgets. For the chain tea drinker in the office try our Tea Time Gift Set - packed with a bone china mug, afternoon tea and delicious biscuits, it has everything for the perfect tea break! Our Carousel design is redolent of magical nights at the fair, while the Gingerbread Wonderland design is fun filled and jolly.

Your resident stationery addict will adore our range of notebooks - try one in our festive Carousel design for ultimate yuletide appeal. Bring joy to the office Bake Off Queen with our Winter Forest Kitchenware Gift Set! Your sweet toothed co-worker will enjoy our Hot Chocolate Pyramid featuring three different flavours of hot chocolate and mini marshmallows.

Friends and Family

We all have them: the difficult to buy for relative who has everything. Not to worry, we have a whole host of ideas to tempt them. Who could fail to be delighted with a Tea Time Gift Set? We have them in our Carousel, Gingerbread Wonderland and Merry Little Christmas designs. Alternatively why not surprise them with something sweet? Our Christmas Pudding fudge is a decadent treat guaranteed to put a smile on her face! If they’re not a foodie, then what could be better than a scented candle to fill the air with Christmas aromas. Made in the UK, our candles have a 40 hour burning time, meaning they’ll be enjoying it long into the New Year!

Our British Fruits range of textiles feature all sorts of gorgeous gifts, perfect for the keen baker in the family. Equally, we think the dog and cat lovers will be delighted with our Debonair Dogs and Curious Cats collections!

Our personalised placemats make the most terrific presents. Available in two sizes they are ideal for eating and also make brilliant craft mats. Make sure you get your order in with plenty of time to spare and you’ll be sure of putting a big smile on their little faces!

Our personalised prints come in a multitude of designs and can be ordered framed or unframed and in an assortment of colours. You can be sure of pleasing your friends as much as their children when you purchase one of these gorgeous keepsakes. From drummer boys and tractors to fairies and even camper vans, there’s something for everyone!

We recommend our personalised Tuck Boxes for a very special gift they’ll treasure forever, and also a fabulous place to store all their Christmas spoils. Available in no fewer than twenty nine designs, all our Tuck Boxes look incredible when personalised with your child’s name. There is a two week lead time of these items, so be sure to place your order in plenty of time before the big day!

Stocking Fillers

Our Baubles of Chocolate Coins make exciting stocking fillers and are available in Carousel, Gingerbread Wonderland and Have a Happy Christmas designs. They’ll look beautiful adorning your tree on Christmas morning. Continuing on the sweet theme, we think a  packet of fudge is far more fun to find in the toe of a stocking than a satsuma!

Introducing our new Christmas ranges!

We are unashamed Christmas fans and are already counting down the hours to the big day. One of the best things about Christmas has to be choosing that perfect present for your loved ones. We’ve been hard at work designing our winter ranges and we can’t wait to introduce them to you. We’ve got a fantastic array of gift and homeware inspirations for you to peruse - you’ll find everything you need for your friends and family, even your tricky-to-buy-for colleagues.

Our ‘Gingerbread Wonderland’ collection is already proving a favourite. There’s nothing more evocative of yuletide evenings than the aroma of spicy gingerbread pervading the house, and our charming illustration adds a sense of seasonal fun. Featuring foodie gifts, tea, stationery and kitchenware, this delightful range will appeal to grown-ups and children alike.

‘Have a Very Happy Christmas’ is our festive take on our popular ‘Celebrating Britain’ range. Quintessentially British with lots of quirky little seasonal details, the range is a celebration of London at Christmas. You’ll find fabulous gifts for London lovers - tea and mug gift sets, more foodie gifts and even a rather wonderful tea advent calendar!

You don’t get much more Christmassy than our ‘Merry Little Christmas’ range! Bedecked with a host of seasonal illustrations including reindeer, fir trees, wreaths, nutcrackers and even Santa Claus himself, it has wide ranging appeal. We think you’ll love our range of gift wrapping items and the fantastic selection of biscuits and sweets. The Teatime Gift Set is a great option for corporate gifting and a lovely alternative to the ubiquitous bottle of wine.

Our ‘Winter Forest’ collection is an elegant print in more neutral hues. A snowy woodland scene with a majestic stag, this range encompasses a lovely range of kitchen textiles - the perfect present for the cook in your life!

‘Carousel’ is a magical design based on an evening at a traditional fair. Charming yet sophisticated we think this design will be loved by all ages! There are chocolate coin filled baubles, tea and mug sets, tea time gift sets, stunning tea caddies and co-ordinating gift wrap.

Do head over to our website and have a browse. This could be your most straightforward Christmas shop ever!

September at Milly Green

What have we been up to at Milly Green?

We revved up for Revival

We had a great start to the month with a day at the Goodwood Revival with all the team! It wasn’t the best of weather but we came together in the true spirit of the revival era. The event itself is absolutely incredible, just like stepping back in time. We would recommend it to anyone - you really don’t have to be a petrol head to have an amazing time (though an umbrella is definitely to be advised)!  It was very special to spend time together outside of the office and a wonderful way to mark the end of the summer.

As you can see, Greg, our Operations Manager, certainly entered into the spirit! The incessant torrential rain took its inevitable toll and by the end of the day we just HAD to recharge with a gin.

Baking Inspiration

September has brought another annual treat in the form of the Great British Bake Off. No matter what channel it’s shown on we just can’t get enough of the action from the marquee. We think our favourite baker of this year’s batch has to be Steven - we’re still dreaming about his bread handbag from week 3.

It’s really inspired us to get busy in the kitchen ourselves. We can’t think of many things we enjoy doing more than tying on our pinnies and getting our bake on with our girls. There have been many disasters along the way, of course, but just as many triumphs. Even the black, sunken, soggy-bottomed monstrosities have been fun in their own way (though maybe not to eat!).

We know it’s so important to find things to do as a family that you can all enjoy - for us we adore to draw and experience the outdoors together as well as get creative in the kitchen. We’d love to hear what brings your family together!

We know it’s only September, but for those of you who just can’t wait for the ‘most wonderful time of the year’, you can already get your mince pie fix at WHSmith. Our very own mince pies in boxes bedecked with our Celebrating Britain design are now on sale there, as we spotted last week. Well, you can never be too organised when it comes to Christmas!

The Ultimate Afternoon Tea

We’re slicing the cucumbers and icing the cakes in preparation for Afternoon Tea week from 14th August. We love this most British of traditions and thought it would be fun to imagine our perfect afternoon tea.

We’d love to throw it at home, ideally with the sun shining. We’d serve up a beautiful feast on the terrace. There would be biscuits, tarts, cucumber sandwiches and, most importantly, our own delicious tea.

As with any party, the most important thing is the guest list and we think we’ve come up with our ultimate list.

The Queen and Prince George

We’re aiming high with our invitations, and our guests of honour would be the Queen and Prince George. We are enormous fans of the Royal Family here at Milly Green and our God Save The Queen! range is one of our absolute favourites. We would serve her this chocolate cake which is apparently what she requests for all her birthdays. We would love to introduce Prince George to Betty and Boris, our Kune Kune pigs and let him play with Digby and Bruno the dachshunds. Then we’d serve him a hot chocolate from a special mug of his very own.

Beatrix Potter

Her illustrations are an inspiration to us here at Milly Green and having read all her books, we think she was a rather keen afternoon tea connoisseur! We’d love to talk to her about her art and her incredible conservation work in the Lake District. As a passionate animal lover, we’re sure she’d enjoy to making the acquaintance of our menagerie!

Vita Sackville-West

We’re big flower lovers here at Milly Green and would love to hear Vita’s stories about how she created her famous garden at Sissinghurst. She lived a rather colourful life and we’re sure she would liven up the conversation! We’re sure she’d adore our Summer Meadow range.

Mary Berry

We’ll need some help with baking up a tea fit for all these guests and turn to the other queen to serve up some showstoppers! With a name like Mary Berry, we would serve her tea in our British Summer Fruits design. It would be wonderful to pick up some cookery tips and hints from Mary - we’d jot them down in one of our notebooks!

In reality, we might not be able to command quite this group of guests, but one thing is certain - we’ll be using Afternoon Tea Week as the perfect excuse to take a moment and spend a little time with those nearest and dearest. And if there’s cake involved, so much the better!

We’d love to hear about who your dream Afternoon Tea guests would be. What would you serve? Tweet us @MillyGreenDesigns and let us know!

How to pack the perfect tuck box...

School’s out for summer! We hope you’re all having a wonderful time with your families and making the most of the glorious sunshine. However, September will be here before you can say ‘are you absolutely sure you didn’t have any holiday homework?’ If you have a child starting boarding in the new school year, chances are you have a to-do list as long as your arm. There are so many things to prepare both practically and, often, emotionally.

Whatever else you find on your kit list, one of the enduring classics of the boarding dormitory is the tuck box. Ours come in a tantalising array of patterns and bright colours and all can be personalised to really add a sense of individuality to your child’s dorm.

Our lead time for a personalised tuck box is up to three weeks (though often less) so makes sure you get your order in soon to get it in time for the start of term.

We have some great tips of what to pack in your children’s tuck boxes to make the first few nights as happy and as special as possible. While the tuck box is overarchingly a practical item for locking away your valuables, we think it’s a great idea to start a little tradition of popping in a few surprises to put a smile on their faces.

  • First things first, as a ‘tuck’ box there have to be a few foodie treats in there. It’s a lovely thing to pop something in that your child really enjoys - perhaps some chocolate biscuits or their favourite sweet. Passing around a pack of custard creams on that nervous first afternoon is a great ice breaker. Yes, we all need to look after our teeth, but a little treat at this milestone moment won’t tip the balance! A word of warning, ensure you don’t put in anything that will perish and smell bad if it’s discarded at the bottom of the box until the Christmas holidays.

  • Some notecards, envelopes and a book of stamps. Yes, we all have email and phones but it’s fantastic encourage the old tradition of letter writing. Letters from home stave away the pangs of homesickness in a far more tangible way than a text message.

Curious Cats Notecards and Envelopes high res 03.03.17.jpg

  • If they have a tablet or music device, make sure they’ve packed their charger and ensure they know to keep valuables locked up when they’re out of the room. Leaving a gift card for new music or e-books would definitely put a smile on a nervous face.

  • Wrap up their favourite mug from home and throw in some hot chocolate sachets for them to share.

  • A new pencil case is a must for the new school year - make sure they have something big enough to carry all their arty supplies, but small enough for their school bag.

  • Think about your child’s special interests. For example, if they’re sporty, a new hockey ball or racquet binding would be a lovely thing to find, an arty child would love a new sketch book and pencil set.

  • Make up a photo album with proper photos mounted in it with pictures of fun family times, pets and happy memories. These are lovely for those homesick moments, of which there will hopefully be very few!

We're offering free tuck box personalisation (worth £12.50) when you order between 24th-30th July 2017 and quote 'MyTuckBox' at the checkout.

Wishing you a wonderful summer and a great start to the Autumn term.

Get the most out of your Summer!

The burgeoning buds and cold snaps of Spring are but a distant memory as Summer has well and truly come to stay. We can find something to love about every time of year, but we have to admit, Summer has to be our very favourite. Not only are the days longer and (hopefully!) warmer, but there’s just so much to see and do. Gone are the days of whiling away the hours indoors by the fire - Summer is a time to get up and go out!

We plan to make the very most out of the warmth and sunshine. As often as the British sun deigns to appear, you can bet we’ll be there. Our Brilliantly British range is packed with everything you could possibly wish for to make the perfect picnic or beach day. Whether it’s a picnic blanket, beach bag or even cushions featuring our summery print, we’ve got you covered for all your summer living and gifting needs.

Copy of ASCOT _C.jpg

Of course, now is the time the ‘Season’ really kicks off. With Wimbledon, Henley Regatta and Hampton Court Flower Show coming up we’re spoilt for choice! However, this week we’re celebrating the magnificent Royal Ascot. Whether you’ll be showing off your hat in the enclosure or just having a flutter from home, you’re sure to be onto a winner with our Royal Ascot range. Full of souvenirs to remember a wonderful day, with teas, biscuits and sweet treats galore!

If you’re entertaining al fresco this season, why not have a look at our Pinterest Boards where we have plenty of recipes and picnic ideas as well as sneak peeks into our design inspirations.

Picnics are such an idyllic way to spend time with your friends and family; we have some tips to make sure you have as much fun as possible!

  • Make sure you pack in the right order so that you can get the picnic blankets, drinks and glasses out first. That way your guests can sit down and have a drink while you get everything else prepared.

  • Bring a wine cooler and thermoses for coffee, tea and even hot sausages.

  • Ensure you can spread out your feast buffet style to allow everyone to help themselves and to stop you have to get up and down endlessly to serve.

  • Don’t forget napkins, some baby wipes if you’re serving finger food and a bin bag to collect everything up once you’re finished.

  • It’s easy to get carried away with the catering, so keep it simple. After all if you’re picnicking at Ascot, money spent on food could be spent on betting! The late A.A. Gill wrote: ‘I reckon you want to spend about half the cost of your hat, which still leaves you plenty of money to lose your shirt.’

Wishing you sunny picnics and wins galore!

What does British Summertime mean to you?

As we begin to relax into the longer, warmer evenings, most of us here in the UK are starting to plan our summer outings. So many joyful activities are associated with British Summertime, it’s hard to pick between them!

Perhaps it’s fresh local strawberries with lashings of cream, shared with friends in the late afternoon sun? Or maybe it’s stretching out on a large picnic blanket under a tree, surrounded by family and enjoying tasty treats from a beautiful picnic hamper? For others, it might be taking a stroll through a summer meadow, enjoying carefree time watching bees drift from flower to flower, the cool, heavenly scented breeze making the meadow shimmer… We are truly spoilt for choice!

Of course, there is another quintessentially British summer event that never fails to entertain and delight…the world famous Royal Ascot!

The historic race meeting kicks off this year on Tuesday June 20th and runs through to Saturday June 24th. Ascot attracts many of the world’s finest racehorses to compete for more than £6.58milllion in prize money! A whirlwind of excitement, colour and glamour, every day displays its own personality and six world-class races.

If you’re lucky enough to be attending Royal Ascot this year, remember to check the style guide! This will give you a good sense of the types of outfits on display so that you can find your own perfect ensemble. Ascot-goers are famed for their incredible – and often eccentric – fashion choices, so embrace your inner fashion guru and strut your stuff in style!

If you’re opting for a picnic, be sure to pack your Ascot goodies into a picnic hamper or coolbox and of course, don’t forget the Bolly!

Keep your eyes peeled, too. You might just spot some royalty!

The roadsides are vivid with daffodils, the air is filled with the smell of toasting hot cross buns and the Easter Bunny is busy filling his basket. The year is tearing by and we can’t believe that Easter is almost upon us. Not that we’re complaining - any excuse to eat chocolate is fine by us!

Whether it’s some gorgeous oven gloves for the Jamie Oliver / Mary Berry in your life, a new water bottle for the kids’ adventures or a luxurious hamper for Granny, whoever you’re looking to treat we have the perfect gift! We have a great range of Easter gifts without the chocolate egg sugar crash.

We’ve been thinking about what we’d like to get up to over Easter and cooking something special for the family is a must. This recipe from Frances Quinn would make a teatime to remember, so tie up your apron and get cooking. We think there might be a fair amount of spoon licking involved!

While chocolate is rightly an Easter non-negotiable, we always despair at the ridiculous amount our children end up with every year! How about getting the Easter Bunny to plant a few other surprises for them to find on Easter morning too? From doodle mats to water bottles and notebooks, we’ve got treats to make any child’s Easter special without the sugar crash.

Milly_Green_Blog_-_Google_Drive.jpgWhen it comes to the grown-ups, have a look at our Easter Gifts page for inspiration. We think our pretty British Summer Fruits and Summer Meadow ranges would go down a treat and, of course our Eggs range is rather on point for the season! All beautiful presents that will be loved and appreciated long after the Easter eggs have all been gobbled up.

If you’re looking for a bigger present for someone, forget putting all your eggs in your basket - what about a hamper? These beautiful gifts are packed full of Milly Green goodies, tea from the hills of Nuwara Eliyah in Sri Lanka, delicious biscuits baked here in the UK, keepsake tins and bone china mugs. The perfect Easter present!

Whatever you end up doing and however you end up celebrating, we wish you all a very happy Easter filled with family, sunshine and eggs!

Mother's Day

Here  at ‘Milly Green’art is in our blood. We thought Mother’s Day was a perfect time to celebrate the generations of talent in our family. Is the love of design and paintingsomething inherited or do we transmit our passions to our loved ones? As it happens, we can count Constable among our ancestors, so we think we must have paint in the veins!

We thought it would be fun to share some of our art works with you. Drawing and painting is a thread that draws us together and we’re sure you’ll agree there are some interesting similarities in subject matter!

From m
ice to elephants (with rather a lot of dogs in between) we often draw our inspiration from the animal kingdom. Of course, with two dogs, two pigs, twoguinea pigs and a cat in our menagerie that’s probably small wonder!

Milly is a prolific artist whose beautiful and characterful illustrations seem to come alive on the page (or apron or water bottle!). She never draws in the studio - her work is very much part of family life and she is most often to be found paintbrush in hand at the kitchen table, while spending timewith her girls, even in front of the odd Disney film!

Milly’s mother Rozanne is, like Milly, self taught. She encouraged Milly to pick up the paintbrush from an early age, and launched herself into her own artistic career once Milly left for University. Now she has a loyal following of clients for her animal portraits, recently a commission for the owner of no fewer than FIVE Dachshunds!

Tilly and Daisy have picked up the family baton (paintbrush!) and love to paint and draw. Here are some of Tilly’s masterpieces. We’re sure you’ll agree she has the makings of a grand master!

This Mothering Sunday why don’t you think about the things that link the women in your family? Is there a passion in your family which has been passed through the years? Baking, riding or music? A love of literature or architecture, even acrobatics or sky diving? Find something you love to do together and celebrate it!

We’d love to hear all about your wonderful Mummys and Grannys and even Great Grandmas! We’re always around to chat on Twitter @MillyGreenLtd. And most importantly: Don’t forget to get something fabulous for your Mum!  We have some beautiful gifts and as a special treat, just enter the code MOTHER10 at the checkout for 10% off your purchase.

Finally, a message from Milly to her mother : ‘Thank you for being such a brilliant mummy and wonderful granny. So incredibly supportive, talented, kind and generous - we love you. Happy Mother’s Day! Xxx’
