When Sir David Attenborough issued a call to action to combat plastic waste in the second series of Planet Earth 2 he set off what many have since called “the Attenborough effect”. This resulted in the “War on plastic waste” and the wider social movement surrounding it.
For the Milly Green team, it gave us the push we needed to totally rebuild our core offers from the ground up! And that's exactly what we have done. Using sustainable and recycled materials we have not defected on quality or cost of any of our products and we are so thrilled and excited at our new collections. We have not only considered and minimised environmental impact but we now also support sustainable initiatives and organisations that give back to our amazing planet through our partner 1% for the Planet.
Did you know that an average t-shirt takes around 700 gallons of water to make? That's 16 oil drums full of water. When recycled cotton is used, the quantity of water is significantly reduced to just 10 gallons. Milly Green is proud to be part of this change with all of our textiles being made from 100% recycled cotton.
No new trees were harmed in the making of our planet happy stationery! We use 100% post consumer waste, printed using friendly soy inks and 75% less water in production than traditional virgin-tree fibre items. We maintain our vibrant colours and patterns on our stationery gifts as well as looking and feeling like a premium quality product.
All of our planet happy bamboo products are made from sustainable bamboo fibre. Bamboo is a great durable material that quickly regenerates and is 100% biodegradable. Making our travel mugs, trays, coasters and lunch boxes as sustainable and eco-friendly as they can be.
By using plant based materials such as cornstarch instead of plastic, our new water bottles remain bpa free, containing no harmful substances and allow our products to be 100% biodegradable whilst reducing our co2 emissions.
If you didn't know, RPET stands for Recycled Polythylene Terephthalate. In short rPET is created by recycling plastics that were previously used as packaging materials. Used to create our foldaway shopping bags, they can be fully recycled and help to reduce co2 emissions by 32 percent.
